An area located wholly within the Lake Torrens National Park, and centred 35 km west of Parachilna, was taken up to explore for possible economic Olympic Dam or Prominent Hill type IOCG style mineralisation that may exist within Proterozoic bedrock buried beneath the lakebed. EL 4397 is subject to as yet undetermined Native Title claims, and is completely covered by a recently recorded but as yet unregistered Aboriginal heritage site being administered under the South Australian Aboriginal Heritage Act 1988; consequently access for mineral exploration purposes is currently not permitted. Straits Exploration is presently attempting to negotiate approved access onto another of its joint-ventured licence areas, EL 4296 of Kelaray Pty Ltd, which is also located entirely on Lake Torrens and lies approximately 25 km north-west of EL 4397. It is envisaged that if access onto EL 4296 for exploration purposes can be achieved, then this may also provide effective procedural avenues for gaining access onto EL 4397.
