Four diapiric structures located in the central Flinders Ranges near Blinman were explored for characteristic indications of large, disseminated porphyry-type copper deposits located within or closely associated with diapiric breccia. Reconnaisance IP surveys carried out as follow-up to previous soil geochemical surveys detected a number of moderate intensity anomalies of interest at Blinman and Oraparinna, but subsequent diamond drilling of the most favourably expressed anomalies at Oratunga and Alpana on the Blinman Dome (2 holes totalling 1525.3 feet) disproved the presence of copper mineralisation at depth, and also showed that iron-bearing heavy minerals in diapiric raft block sediments, or graphite trapped in rim rock shear planes, are the most probable causes of the IP response.
