As part of a regional investigation of the stratiform base metal mineral potential of Cambrian strata in South Australia, Kennecott has undertaken a geochemical reconnaissance of the Parachilna Formation and Wilkawillina Limestone strata present in the Willochra district. Initial stream sediment and rock chip sampling was hindered by the widespread transported regolith of Pound Quartzite that covers much of the Parachilna Formation. However, three areas were outlined that are considered to warrant further work. In the Mount Arden - Comstock area there is anomalous copper, lead and zinc along a strike length of 17 miles. Stream sediments from Radford Creek returned up to 1000 ppm Pb, and nearby soils returned up to 0.6% combined lead and zinc. The area lying east and north-east of Kanyaka Hill is also of interest.
