The object of the current investigation was to identify ore controls, to outline an area for geophysical investigation, and to locate targets for diamond drilling. The work carried out to date includes an examination of the known mineral occurrences in the area, mapping on a scale of 1 inch = 1000 feet over an area of approximately 14 square miles, and a photogeological interpretation of the structural elements of the whole area. Results of field mapping show that there are at least three ages of quartz veins. The oldest trend parallel to the bedding and have been drag folded; these may carry galena. A younger set crosscuts and offsets veins parallel to the bedding; they carry quartz and limonite and may also carry galena. A third set of veins occupies joint planes; these are filled with mainly barren milky white buck quartz of variable thickness, usually very thin. Cleavage has had little control on the location of the veins. The chemical composition of the host rock is not recognised as a controlling factor. The Cross Crusader and Eukaby west areas show the highest grades of mineralization and the thickest veins. It is possible that gentle cross-warping may have had some influence on the size of the fractures. It is concluded that the grade of mineralization as exposed at the surface is uneconomic, but that the widespread nature of the vein system and its extension along strike warrants exploration both at depth and in areas obscured by alluvium and kunkar, especially to the east of Anna Branch Creek. It is recommended that IP surveys be carried out over certain selected areas.
