Buried basement-hosted iron oxide - associated copper-gold (IOCG) mineralisation of either Moonta-Wallaroo or Olympic Dam style is the target of ongoing exploration on the two adjacent subject tenements. In addition, the current holder considers that the tenements are prospective for uranium, iron ore and potentially a number of other commodities, targets for which will be addressed as geological understanding progresses with the building of knowledge from regional exploration programs. Following finalisation of the transfer of ownership of the project licences from Avoca Resources to Rex Minerals ("Rex") in May 2008, exploration activities undertaken by Rex during the 2008-2009 reporting year were as follows: - A geological review of the project was completed in early 2008. The review was predominantly focussed on evaluation of currently available gravity and magnetic data covering the licence areas, and this led to planning of an infill ground-based gravity survey designed to further define the structural characteristics of the main regional gravity anomaly. - A detailed ground gravity survey was acquired during September-October 2008, when 1329 stations were read at a nominal 200 m x 200 m grid spacing, infilling the previous gravity data collected at 400m x 400 m by Avoca. Minor areas of the former coverage were omitted due to landholder concerns about possible crop damage. Following the completion of data processing, interpretation of several offset gravity and magnetic anomalies so surveyed delineated eight targets of interest for drill testing, lying along two elongate gravity anomalies striking in NW and NNW directions. - Initial exploratory RC precollared diamond drilling was performed by Rex over the period 18th November to 5th December 2008, when a single vertical HQ/NQ cored hole, WDD002, was completed to TD 707.5 m to test a site on the NNW trending structure. The hole intersected a sequence of flat lying dolomitic carbonaceous sediments containing minor chalcopyrite–pyrite mineralisation from 130 m to 190 m depth, before passing into a thick sequence of Corunna Conglomerate and haematitic sandstone continuing to 465 m depth. From there to 707.5 m depth, the hole encountered basement (Wandearah Formation) comprising pink to green–brown haematitic metasiltstones containing minor brecciation, haematite veining and possible granitic (?Hiltaba Suite equivalent) intrusions. Very minor alteration was noted in this basement section. The drillhole was cased off to allow downhole geophysical logging to be completed at a later date. Visible occurrences of copper mineralisation within the cover sequences, along with geological evidence of a large IOCG mineralising system, were regarded by Rex as highly encouraging. Drill core sample assaying of the chalcopyrite-bearing carbonaceous sediments of the Adelaidean Tapley Hill Formation (host to the Mount Gunson copper deposit in SA) returned intercepts of 28 m @ 0.07% Cu from 133 m depth, and 13 m @ 0.03% Cu from 172 m. However, no IOCG - related geochemically anomalous trace metal values were returned from the basement lithologies assayed. No follow-up new work was completed during the 2009-2010 project year, owing Rex's concentration of its efforts elsewhere, viz. mainly on the Hillside IOCG deposit that it had discovered on central eastern Yorke Peninsula, where a programme of intensive orebody delineation drilling conducted over that period enabled the release of a maiden resource estimate in July 2010. The entire circumstance attached to the making of this management decision is explained in the annual report letter. During the 2010-2011 project year, Rex’s exploration effort was still directed at evaluating the Hillside copper-gold deposit (cf. the Moonta South Project ELs 3874, 3875 and 4514). Work being done there continued to focus on advancing the orebody towards production, mainly through conducting intensive drilling, with resource estimates and a conceptual mining study progressively released to the market. Consequently, exploration activity on the Wandearah Project was reduced to a minimal level, and no new technical work was completed. For the same overriding reason, no new work was undertaken on the subject two licences over the lengthy succeeding period 2011-2018, firstly while a number of mining feasibility studies involving multidisciplinary research and risk assessment were performed on Hillside that led to the grant of a mining lease there on 16/9/2014 (ML 6438), and later while the company was actively seeking funds to help it develop the deposit. During 2017, the company withdrew its application for a subsequent licence to EL 5133 Port Pirie, which lapse in tenure was actioned by DPC on 1/8/2017. Subsequently, on 26/4/2018, EL 5883 Crystal Brook was fully surrendered.
