An area centred ~120 km south-west of Coober Pedy has been explored for possible economic buried gold and base metals mineralisation that may have formed within Proterozoic and older basement rocks. Mostly these are covered by the younger Jurassic Algebuckina Sandstone or by Pleistocene aeolian sand deposits. During the first licence year, Apollo conducted a review of historical exploration records and of open file geological and geophysical data. The company also engaged Dr Kevin Wills to assess the region's gold prospectivity and to provide work programme planning recommendations on another of Apollo’s licences within the Titan Project ground. Dr Wills commented that at regional surface geochemical grid sampling densities such as 1 km x 1 km, or 2 km x 2 km, all returned anomalies in the range of 5-8 ppb Au should be followed up. Dr Wills also commented that if the soil calcrete samples which had ultimately led to the discovery of the Challenger gold deposit had been located 200 m away from where they in fact were taken, by being collected at differently spaced grid centres, then Challenger would not have been discovered at the time it was. During licence Year 2, Apollo did no work. Planned follow-up of recorded >5 ppb Au calcrete results did not occur, nor did the ground truthing of published 1:100k surface geological maps, which had been mooted as a prelude to sampling outcropping basement rocks.
