A 529 square km major portion of the southern part of EL 4751 Claude Hills, which is located in the extreme north-west of South Australia in the Musgrave Ranges, has now been voluntarily relinquished by licensee Austral Nickel Pty Ltd. This surrendered portion of ground had been excluded from clearance for ground-based exploration by the Aboriginal traditional owners during heritage surveys carried out prior to the grant of EL 4751. The only work possible to do that would contribute towards meeting the Ni-Cu-PGE regional search objectives was a fixed-wing SPECTREM platform airborne electromagnetic survey, which was planned to be carried out in early 2011 on EL 3555, the precursor to EL 4751. However, the conduct of this survey was severely delayed by regulatory problems experienced with the contractor, and it therefore was eventually flown between 26/12/2011 and 16/2/2012, after tenure had been renewed under EL 4751. A total of 474.75 line km of the overall 3440 line km airborne survey coverage fell within the now relinquished licence portion, representing parts of 88 north-south flight lines spaced 250 m apart that were profiled using a 90 m nominal sensor elevation above the ground surface. No conductivity anomalism was located by the AEM survey, and the lack of ground access made retention of the southern part of the tenement impractical.
