Eleven traverses of rock chip samples were collected during a preliminary prospecting programme in SML 339 in the Reaphook Hill region of South Australia. While no obvious zinc or manganese deposits were located during investigations of the Lower Cambrian sedimentary sequence, a few Mn - rich zones, which might be more extensive below the surface, were encountered. The Parachilna Formation contains the zinc deposit occurring north of Reaphook Hill and was a prime target during investigations. However, it was found that most localities in which this formation was to be expected, i.e. between the Pound Quartzite and Wilkawillina Limestone, were occupied by an alluvium-filled topographic depression.
