A licence area covering a large salt lake (Lake Gregory) of the Cenozoic Lake Eyre Basin, and the underlying Mesozoic Eromanga Basin sediments situated to the north of the uranium-rich Mount Babbage and Mount Painter inliers, ~120 km north-east of Marree, has been explored for possible economic lithium, boron and potassium salts mineralisation that might exist in surficial sediments, as well as for any geochemical anomaly vectors which could help guide exploration towards possible buried sedimentary uranium mineralisation. Activities which were undertaken during the short period of tenure included: - performing a review of previous exploration work conducted in the area, via the study of open file reports and published literature; - the establishment of GIS database; and - the completion of a hand auger drilling programme across Lake Gregory, to enable the subsequent collection and geochemical analysis of reconnaissance samples of lakebed sediments, ponded surface water, and entrapped pore waters (brines) that are lying directly beneath the top of the lakebed, as sampled in widely spaced shallow auger holes dug down to ~1 m depth beneath it. For the last-named work, 9 shallow holes were hand-drilled during October 2016 using a 100 mm diameter auger, to a maximum depth of 1.1 m below the ground surface. Rapidly recharging brines were encountered at typically around 0.8 m depth in five of the holes. 3 surface water samples, 5 brine samples and 19 lacustrine sediment samples were collected and were laboratory assayed, but no anomalous values were returned for targeted elements. In view of these results, it was rapidly decided to surrender the licence.
