The three adjoining subject licences, which are located north of the Trans Australian Railway and approximately 200 km north-west of the town of Ceduna, have jointly been fully surrendered due to their geology being regarded by the joint venturers as no longer having prospectivity either for economic heavy mineral (HM) sands or for gold mineralisation. On Paling Range EL 4456, Iluka performed exploratory traverse drilling during the period 2010-2012, when 267 vertical open aircore holes were drilled for a total penetration of 14,190.5 m. 182 of the holes for 9054.5 m were drilled to appraise BHP's historic Sherrin HM prospect on the eastern side of this tenement. Of 2812 drill cuttings samples which were submitted for laboratory heavy mineral analysis, a total of 514 contained HM >1%. Some high grade intercepts (e.g. 1.5 m @ 29.6% HM in hole MAR0909 from 52.5 m depth) were obtained, with high proportions of detrital zircon (up to 47.8%). The Sherrin prospect HM occurrence is irregularly shaped, and the depth of mineralisation at 55 m is too deep, and the HM grainsize too fine (d50 of 70-80 micron), for it to be considered an economic deposit. In 2012, step-out drilling of 84 additional holes for 5106 m demonstrated that the tenor of HM mineralisation is not consistent within the eastern part of the tenement. This drilling targeted the south-west facing bay to the immediate east of the Sherrin prospect, but yielded disappointing results, revealing only sporadic thin, deep, predominantly low to moderate grade HM. On Barton Range North EL 4457, Iluka performed exploratory traverse drilling during the period 2010-2012, when 86 vertical open aircore holes were drilled for a total penetration of 4035 m. Initial drilling in 2010 targeted an interpreted scarp feature preserved in front of and across the Barton Range. The target shoreface marine sand sequence was not strongly preserved, and lacked consistency, indicating possible influence from erosional factors. The mineralisation logged in downhole samples was generally poor, with thin intercepts (1.5 m to 3 m thick) of low to moderate grade HM (1% to 3% HM), and rare higher grade intercepts (>5% HM), observed. These latter likely represent minor reworking and concentrating of HM along the palaeoshoreline. Further drilling in 2011 and 2012 of 30 holes for 1454 m further sterilised this tenement, by revealing predominantly low grade HM intercepts and poorly preserved marine sands. On Eucla Basin Area 4N EL 4455, Iluka performed exploratory traverse drilling during the period 2010-2012, when 122 vertical open aircore holes were drilled for a total penetration of 7550.5 m. In 2010, two long drill traverses crossing the Barton Range were completed, consisting of 43 holes for 2763 m. These holes encountered poorly developed marine sands unfavourable for HM strandings. The mineralisation intersected was low grade, with a maximum intercept of 1.2% HM. The remainder of the drilling mainly took place in 2012, and targeted a south facing palaeoshoreline embayment between the Barton and Ooldea Ranges. Some of the holes were also designed to test for any strike extension of HM intercepts made during the 2011 drilling in the east of Paling Range EL 4456. The majority of mineralisation intersected was low grade, containing between 1-3% HM, and it occurred at depths between 20 and 50 m. In 2015, farminee Doray Minerals made an overview reconnaissance field visit to all three tenements, and also resampled and assayed stored drill chip samples from Iluka's previously drilled holes, to inform a desktop geological interpretation of the cover and bedrock geology. It concluded that the overall area west of the Wilkinson Lakes does not hold much potential for placer gold trapped within buried palaeochannel sediments.

Notes: Iluka acquired the three subject licences from Rio Tinto Exploration Pty Ltd on 19/10/2009 by a conditional transfer of 100% ownership, that included an as yet undisclosed payment, after Rio decided in mid-2008 to divest all of its Eucla Basin tenements to interested parties. These tenements were subject to a farm-in agreement that was made with Doray Minerals Limited in November 2014.
