An area in Far North SA, centred ~75 km east-southeast of Kulgera on the Stuart Highway, and abutting the SA-NT State border, has been explored for possible buried economic magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE deposits associated with mafic-ultramafic intrusive rocks of the Proterozoic Giles Complex. Another newly recognised target was epithermal/hydrothermal silver-copper-zinc and rare earth mineralisation that had recently been noted by DMITRE as occurring within granites of the Pitjantjatjara Supersuite. During the first year of tenure, the licensee conducted a desktop review of previous company exploration reports and government mapping reports for the areas covered by the four Alcurra Project tenements. As part of this process, it developed a comprehensive in-house spatial database to assist in identifying and ranking exploration targets on these tenements and to use for planning field work. No new work took place in the second licence year, due to corporate dealings surrounding the private ownership of some project licences by Woomera Exploration, and the required rationalisation of the company's many licence holdings within SA to allow for full share market funding of the exploration licence commitments, which necessitated making in total an ~50% reduction in the combined area of the initial ground holdings. A preliminary field work programme for EL 5286 was also designed in this period, based in part on newly available semi-detailed gravity data acquired in 2014 by the Geological Survey of SA in conjunction with its Tieyon 100K mapsheet regional mapping project (cf. RB 2014/00018). During the third licence year, Woomera Exploration identified twelve inferred Giles Complex exploration targets across the entire Alcurra Project area, selecting them primarily on the basis of RC drill hole assays, rock chip assays and magnetic trends. Because the basement rocks in the area have highly variable magnetic signatures, primarily due to the age-related characteristic remanent magnetism components of these mafic/ultramafic intrusive bodies, a Vector Residual Magnetic Intensity (VRMI) filter was applied to the TMI data in an attempt to compensate for the remanence, thereby revealing major tracts of ground where there appeared to be major changes to the apparent susceptibility. It was planned that rock chip and soil sampling would be conducted as an exploration first pass over these twelve target zones, and any significant geochemical anomalies would then be followed up with ground electromagnetic surveys to delineate subsurface conductors for drilling. A single priority 2000 m wide magnetic target was identified in the north-eastern corner of the subject EL area, based mainly on the company's image interpretation of MESA's 1993 SAEI Area D1 aeromagnetic data, and on a correlation with some bedrock Cu-Au geochemical anomalies recorded from three of PIRSA's 2002 scout RC drillholes located there (TRE RC11, TRE RC12 and TIE RC28). However, no other new work was conducted on EL 5286 before a decision was made to surrender tenure.
