Iluka Resources has previously been exploring an area located 200 km north-west of Ceduna primarily for buried Tertiary marine placer deposits of heavy mineral sands. But due to the poor results obtained from its reconnaissance traverse drilling conducted on the subject EL 4324/5528 and surrounding tenements, this region's HM prospectivity has been downgraded [see Env 11153]. Prior to farming out the now fully surrendered EL 5528, during February 2014, Iluka had acquired part of an airborne VTEM survey over it as a first pass Ni, Cu and PGE targeting tool. 60.9 line km of coverage was flown along 3 NE-SW lines spaced 200 m apart, using a 39 m mean EM sensor elevation above the ground surface. Although the AEM data from the south-western ends of the flight lines were affected by conductive cover, approximately 60% of the limited area surveyed was considered to have been effectively tested by the VTEM system. No well-defined anomalies consistent with bedrock conductors were identified. [Note: the following Barton - specific gold exploration brief summary has been prepared from unabridged technical reports, included herein, which address all of the Doray Western Gawler Project work done on multiple Iluka licences] : From January to April 2015, Doray collected regional bedrock geochemical data by assaying 94 selected bottom-of-hole samples from Iluka' stored chip trays for gold and associated multi-element pathfinders. The company then contracted consultants Lulofs Management Services to conduct an interpretation of its assay results using principle component analysis methods, which generated a statistical correlation factor anomaly over EL 5528 which potentially could be related to gold mineralisation. This 'Target D' zone covered a large part of the licence area between two major bounding faults where some coherent gold pathfinder anomalism was recognised. During December 2016, a geophysical data interpretation of inferred prospective basement structures was performed by Rebecca Klein of Doray Minerals and Ed Baltis, principal of Gold Vector Pty Ltd. They identified 11 conceptual targets lying within E-W to NE-trending structural corridors, 7 of which relate to high priority Archean successions in the central/northern part of the project acreage; 2 of these targets are located on EL 5528.
