An area centred ~30 km west of Port Augusta and comprising two separate sub-blocks has been explored for possible buried economic gold and base metal mineralisation which could have formed within IOCG or shear zone settings. Primary targets were two previously identified significant geophysical anomalies, Laura and Ozone, which lie within the western sub-block of the licence. The area was thought to display several characteristics that confirm prospectively including mineralised shear zones off the Roopena Fault and Kalinjala Mylonite structures. Historical exploration had confirmed that IOCGU style alteration present at the nearby Spencer prospect, and had shown that the licence area has very thin cover, when compared to areas in the northern portion of the Olympic Dam corridor, with only 0-50 m depth to basement. During the first licence year, purchase option holder Renascor Resources acting as exploration operator conducted soil geochemical sampling at 50 m intervals along two traverses (122 samples assayed via a field portable XRF spectroscopic analyser) that crossed over, and undertook geophysical modelling of, the Laura and Ozone semi-coincident gravity and magnetic anomalies. No base metal anomalism was seen in the FPXRF readings, but the method is only a qualitative one, so the results were treated as inconclusive. During the second licence year, Renascor undertook a desktop geophysical data review aimed at identifying any additional base metal or gold targets on the Lincoln Gap ground, and completed geophysical modelling of the Laura and Ozone targets, where three diamond cored holes had been drilled in the past without finding any clear indications of IOCG style alteration. It was decided that although deeper drilling to test the magnetic anomaly source at Laura and the main gravity anomaly source at Ozone might still be warranted, the estimated depths to reach their source bodies are considerable. Furthermore, the presence of mafic volcanic rocks (Roopena Basalt) as encountered within existing drillholes on the licence suggested that those intrusions are the most likely sources for any shallower geophysical targets such as those identified by previous ground IP and EM surveys. It was recommended that Renascor should pursue larger size - lower risk targets in areas of shallower cover elsewhere within the company’s Eastern Eyre Project tenement holdings.
