A small area located on and adjacent to the eastern margin of the Denison Range, ~ 60 km south-east of Oodnadatta, has been explored for possible buried economic sediment-hosted uranium mineralisation. During licence Year 1 the licensee reviewed all previous work done in the Peake Hill district. During licence Year 2 the licensee acquired a detailed ground gravity survey and a helicopter-borne detailed aeromagnetic/radiometric survey over the tenement. 828 new gravity stations were read in May 2015 over the entire licence on a 200 m x 100 m grid. A small portion of multi-licence airborne geophysical coverage (mostly on adjoining EL 5581) was flown in June 2015 along east-west flight lines 50 m apart, using a 30 m mean sensor elevation above the ground surface, for ~500 line km. During licence year 3 the new geophysical data was interpreted. A change in exploration focus was made to address possible IOCG mineralisation targets within buried Proterozoic basement, and four such targets were identified by geophysical modelling. An application was made to the SA Government for funding assistance to help the company drill these targets. Approval was obtained under the PACE Initiative Discovery Drilling programme to drill one of the targets, as collaborative drilling Project DPY9-16 announced in October 2016. During licence Year 4, in May 2017, GBE Exploration completed 1 vertical exploratory hole to 550 m depth on the Mount Denison prospect to test the IOCG potential of Proterozoic basement hidden beneath Great Artesian Basin sediments to the east of the Denison Range. This hole was rotary mud precollared to 189 m depth through the sedimentary cover to safely pass through the artesian aquifers, and then was continuously HQ diamond cored to TD. Top of basement was reached at 182 m, much deeper than had been expected from the geophysical prognosis. The drill core is composed of predominantly Peake Metamorphics suite basalts and metasediments, with minor amphibolite and altered metasandstones/quartzites. Sporadic hydrothermal quartz veining was noted, with minor haematite alteration and sulphides mainly restricted to these quartz veins, vein selvedges or fractures. Strong and consistent foliation dips and matching orientations to lithological contacts were noted throughout the basement section penetrated, both inclined at 20-40 degrees to the core axis; this appears to an extension of the structural orientation noted in the outcropping Peake Metamorphics to the west. Minor hydrothermal quartz veining and fracture controlled copper mineralisation noted in the outcropping Peake Metamorphics to the west are believed to be repeated in this basement sequence, although no significant mineralisation or geological features were noted. Therefore no samples were submitted for assaying. Because of the lack of signs of IOCG mineralisation, and the greater depth to basement seen beneath the GAB in this area, the prospectivity of the tenement was downgraded and a decision to surrender tenure was made.
