Mineral sands containing approximately 25% rutile in the heavy fraction were assessed for their geological extent and economic potential. The heavy mineral strandings occur over varying widths of up to 60 feet throughout the total length of Morrison Beach (330 chains). Mineralised sand layers range in thickness from 6" up to 3'6". It is estimated that 9400 tons of heavy mineral concentrate could be produced by shifting and treating 68,700 cubic yards of beach sand. This concentrate should contain approximately 111,000 pounds worth of rutile.
