Exploration licences 5837, 5838, 5839, 5840, 5841, 5842 and 5843 collectively known as the “Coompana Project” cover an area of 6572 square km south of the Trans Australian Railway on the western margin of the Gawler Craton, on the South Australia – Western Australia border. Oz Exploration Pty Ltd (Oz) and Mithril Resources Ltd (Mithril) are targeting magmatic nickel – copper sulphide deposits, in what is interpreted to be a highly prospective belt that lies between the Fowler domain and the Madura Block. During licence Year 1, no ground-based exploration activities were completed on the tenement group, with exploration efforts focused on desktop studies and the reprocessing of historical data. Studies included a literature review of magmatic nickel-copper deposits, relogging of historical diamond core, forward modelling of EM geophysical data (completed by Kelvin Blundell – see included report appx. 2), reviewing the CSIRO depth-to-basement model and reprocessing and interpreting open file aeromagnetic data. During licence Year 2 no exploration field work or technical work was undertaken on the project.
