Portions of a tenement located within the Nawa Domain basement rocks subcrop region of the northern Gawler Craton have recently been relinquished by Woomera Exploration (WEX) in order to meet exploration expenditure compliance conditions of its multi-licence SA tenure. Previous exploration drilling performed in this region by BHP Minerals revealed subsurface geological information which indicated that the current Nawa Project area held by WEX is prospective for buried IOCG style epithermal/hydrothermal mineralisation. In its initial work done on EL 5116, WEX focussed its attention on delineating a coincident magnetic/gravity anomaly which BHP Minerals had originally identified in the south-eastern corner of the tenement. 3D geophysical modelling of all of the available magnetic data for this position, which was undertaken by WEX, indicated that two large dense magnetic sources cause this anomaly, and it is currently believed that they warrant further investigation, given that a nearby historic exploratory hole drilled by BHP Minerals intersected metamorphosed sediments of the Mount Woods Complex, which unit hosts OZ Minerals’ Prominent Hill IOCG deposit. Consequently, the portion of the tenement containing this untested [and un-named] feature of interest has been retained within the renewed licence area.
