Exploration for possible buried vein style copper-gold mineralisation, that may have formed in contact metamorphosed hornfelsic rocks adjacent to an inferred buried Delamerian or younger mafic intrusive body, has been conducted in a preliminary fashion only in the vicinity of the abandoned Ulooloo Goldfield near Hallett township. During the first licence year, a field geological reconnaissance of those old gold workings was made, and a pyrite bearing thin ironstone-quartz vein material, present as fragments within a conglomerate horizon at the base of Cenozoic eluvial sediments, was identified as the probable source of the gold mined. Subsequently, 99 rock chip samples were collected from nearby elevated Adelaidean bedrock exposures and assayed for trace metals, with unremarkable results. It was concluded that doing more prospecting for thin vein sets and much additional surface geochemical exploration would be needed to define targets likely to lie hidden under cover in an epigenetic setting surrounding the inferred intrusion. No further work was done on the licence area before a decision was made to surrender it.
