An area located ~10 km west of Oodnadatta, which lies near the northern margin of the Gawler Craton, was taken up to encompass a large 240 nT magnetic anomaly with a coincident 16 mGal gravity anomaly, that it was believed had aspects analogous to the geophysical characteristics of Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill and Carrapateena. Only two holes had been drilled on the target previously, in 2002 and 2007, and in the new licencee's opinion its IOCG mineralisation potential still remained largely untested and the sources to the anomalies unexplained. During the initial licence year, WEX conducted a desktop review of reports about previous exploration activities and Government research studies. Vertical gradient processing of the available magnetic data showed discrete features that were modelled for selecting drill targets. During licence Year 2, no work was done. Instead the licensee pursued investment opportunities in the resources sector. In line with this strategy, in December 2014 it acquired Norsa Exploration Pty Ltd (Norsa) and that company's licence portfolio in South Australia. During licence Year 3, in February 2015, WEX completed a technical review of its new combined tenement holdings and partially relinquished or fully surrendered ~50% of the initially granted ground area, leaving nine ELs and two ELAs in force. This action included partially relinquishing ~45% of the subject EL 5040. Three diamond cored holes were proposed to be drilled to test the high density part of the 3D modelled Mount Carulinia target located on the retained licence portion. During licence Years 4 and 5, no work was done. WEX carried out another review of its combined ground holdings late in 2017, and partially relinquished or fully surrendered more of the initially granted ground area, leaving remnant parts of seven ELs and two ELAs in force. During licence Year 6, on renewed EL 6133, following the receipt of a consultant's review report about its intended geophysical target, WEX suspended further activities and allowed tenure to lapse at the end of the reporting year.
