This report argues that based on the two recent discoveries of oil pools at Ventura 1 and Mirage 1, together with the presence of a third multipool oil field at Narcoonowie and the presence of oil shows in all other wells drilled on the Coobowie High, that the Coobowie High in the southernmost part of PEL 115 represents a new Jurassic oil province. The Coobowie High is ideally placed adjacent to and updip from a mature oil generative Patchawarra Formation source kitchen. It is estimated that there is a possible oil resource of 17MMbbls on the Mirage-Burruna High and a further possible oil resource of 17MMbbls on the Coobowie-Voodoo High, the two most prominent highs on the Coobowie high feature. Further Jurassic stratigraphic plays and downside fault traps are inferred in the intervening “low” area between these two highs. Full field development scoping economics conducted on one of these resources, the Mirage-Burruna High, indicate that the project could support a 3D seismic survey. Santos have demonstrated the benefit of conducting 3D seismic for Jurassic oil field appraisal and development in the Eromanga Basin. With 3D seismic, Jurassic crests can be identified, any fault compartmentalisation mapped and seismic facies identified. Appraisal and development well locations are better selected and therefore field development is optimised. The Mirage-Burruna High has been selected as the first high to be evaluated because of the recent success at Mirage 1 and due to its relative size. Arguably the Coobowie-Voodoo High requires a Coobowie 2 well updip from Coobowie 1 or a Voodoo 1 well before recommending 3D seismic detailing on that high. The 2005 PEL 115 work program and budget is in preparation and the possibility of conducting a 3D seismic acquisition needs to be reviewed immediately.
