The Wynn area was reassessed for up dip potential to the east of Wynn 1. Wynn 1 is located in PEL32 the Otway Basin, South Australia. Detailed mapping revealed a structurally complex area, which has been subjected to extensional and compressive stress regimes. Late Cretaceous/Tertiary compression is significant in the Wynn area. Northeast – southwest folds are prominent in the Sawpit Sandstone interval and it looks as if inversion of northwest-southeast trending faults has occurred. The Wynn up dip prospect has significant potential. Wynn 1 flowed up to 4.1 MMCFD gas, 107.2 BCPD and recovered oil from the Sawpit Sandstone. Cased hole tests indicate that three gas water contacts were straddled within the Sawpit Sandstone. The reserves have been calculated using thin sand intervals. The mean unrisked recoverable reserves for the prospect are 9.1 bcf. Based on the reserves and the risk assessment an appraisal well is recommended (Wynn 2).
