309.6 square km or ~18.77% of the pre-existing area of EL 5564 Poondinga was partially relinquished on 19/2/2019 because in the licensee's view this south-eastern portion of the licence are does not appear to exhibit the geological features required for the significant accumulation of heavy minerals (HM). The existing density of drillholes that have been put in there is thought to be sufficient to rule out any likely remaining potential for finding economic HM mineralisation. Exploration activities previously undertaken on the now relinquished area of EL 5564 have included: • Acquisition of part of a low level airborne magnetic/radiometric/DTM survey that was flown during the period 1/12/2010 to 6/5/2011, with flight lines spaced 100 m apart and a mean sensor elevation above the ground surface of 20 m; • Exploratory traverse drilling for HM, with 78 vertical RC aircore holes being drilled for a total penetration of 2365.7 m, and a total of 143 samples submitted for laboratory HM analysis. initially, drilling targets were the interpreted palaeoshorelines situated between the Ooldea Range and the Barton Range, this place being commonly referred to as the Inla area. Later on, further drilling targeted the central Colona area, in the Bay of Plenty region. Generally low grade mineralisation around 1% HM was encountered in some drillholes, and singular best intercepts of 1.5 m @ 3.5% HM + 1.5 m @ 6.3% HM were recorded from the depth interval 21-24 m in hole YE1290 drilled within the relinquished licence portion; • Targeted deep drilling for non-HM commodities during December 2012, with 4 vertical RC aircore holes for 505 m, that had short diamond cored tails, being drilled through the cover into fresh bedrock to test an aeromagnetic anomaly located within the dually proclaimed Yumbarra Conservation Park. 4 bedrock drill core samples were examined petrologically and 154 selected drill cuttings and drill core samples were submitted for laboratory multi-element analysis; • Chemical analysis of 397 stored historical drill cuttings samples from 54 drillholes, using a portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometric instrument, to further test the prospectivity of EL 5564 for possible non-HM mineralisation. Iluka’s recent review of its comprehensive drilling and assay database, plus consideration of the observed subsurface geology and HM mineralisation has identified the Gobi prospect as the most favourable HM exploration target on EL 5564. This mineralisation occurrence is situated along the southern strike extension of the previously discovered Mojave-Kalahari HM mineralisation trend. Iluka has retained the eastern part of EL 5564 overlying the prospective Mojave-Kalahari-Gobi area, and plans to undertake further exploration of the Gobi area.
