Since late November 2012, a number of areas in the northern central Gawler Craton and eastern Musgrave Province have been taken up by Woomera Exploration Limited (WEX), an unlisted public company, for the purpose of minerals exploration. Within the subject licence area, which is centred ~130 km west of Coober Pedy and lies adjacent to the south-eastern boundary of the Nawa Domain crustal block, the company's exploration target is possible economic buried IOCG type base and precious metals mineralisation. During the first licence year the company performed a desktop review of previous exploration data for the subject area. It was found that no basement-penetrating drillholes exist there. Within the region containing EL 5116, DMITRE during 2014 conducted an extensive 1 km grid-based ground gravity survey to generate data that would help promote mineral prospectivity. WEX proposed to supplement the relevant data from this gravity survey, which covered about half of EL 5116, by infilling the 1 km grid to a precision of 500 m station spacing within this area, and to conduct its own gravity survey at a 500 m grid spacing on the remaining licence portion. During licence Year 2, the company's initial interpretation of the DMITRE gravity survey data subset suggested that basement may lie at relatively shallow depth across much of its licence area. During licence Year 3, no work was done. During licence Year 4, WEX reviewed available past aeromagnetic survey data for the licence area. It also ran 3D inversion models on the regional gravity survey data to remodel a 12 km long, coincident magnetic and gravity anomaly lying along the Nawa Domain boundary, which had been drilled by BHP Minerals in 1991 with a single shallow hole, and again in 1992 with another slightly deeper hole. Two large dense magnetic source bodies were interpreted by WEX as causing the anomaly, but neither had yet been adequately tested by that earlier drilling. During licence Year 5, no work was done. A partial relinquishment of half of the original area of the licence was made at its renewal for a second five-year term. During licence Year 6, on renewed EL 6246, no work was done. During licence Year 7, the only work done by WEX was to review after August 2019 the newly published detailed magnetic and radiometric data produced from the SA Government's flying of Region 8A of the PACE Copper Gawler Craton Airborne Survey. An aboriginal heritage protection work area clearance survey was performed with representatives of the Antakirinja Matu-Yankunytjatjara Native Title group to inspect places programmed for infill ground gravity surveying and subsequent diamond drilling. During licence Year 8, no work was done before it was decided to fully surrender tenure of EL 6246, as part of a rationalisation process to enable the company to focus exploration efforts on its Alcurra - Tieyon project in the eastern Musgrave Ranges in SA and its Mount Venn gold project in the eastern goldfields of WA.
