An area centred ~20 km west-northwest of the Olympic Dam copper-gold-uranium mine is being explored for possible economic, similar IOCG type mineralisation that may have formed in buried Mesoproterozoic basement, but underlying much thicker cover than is present at that locality, it possibly being of the order of 1 to 1.5 km in thickness, probably increasing going eastwards. The first licence year was mainly taken up with doing logistical preparations and data reviews. FMG’s opinion arising from this work is that there seem to be no obvious geophysical targets in the regional geophysical data, and neither are the Adelaidean or Pandurra Formation rocks judged as being particularly prospective, especially when their overlying younger cover thickness is brought into consideration. Therefore this tenement presently has a very low ranking in terms of doing further exploration. However, FMG intends to conduct a further review of the open file geophysical data. It was also confirmed that an airborne gravity survey will be completed in the near future to assist in better defining basement features.
