The subject tenement, one of six that have recently been fully surrendered by licensee Menninnie Metals Pty Ltd, was acquired to explore for extensions/repeats of the mineralising system that hosts the Menninnie Dam and Viper deposits, and to investigate the potential of any inferred IOCG(-S) rock alteration systems that may have existed in the area. No infill gravity surveying was undertaken initially to help with locating targets, because it was thought that the existing, typically 2 km separation of regional gravity station readings would allow for the density response of any small IOCG bodies to be discerned in the gravity data. During reconnaissance field mapping that was done along station tracks and the sides of made roads, portable XRF spectrometric analysis of 52 selected surface (soil) samples failed to identify elevated cerium, a proximal pathfinder element that is known to be associated with the sulphur-poor upper levels of Gawler Craton IOCG deposits. However, Menninnie Metals noted that the lack of anomalous surface samples does not exclude the possibility that Olympic Dam aged IOCG mineral occurrences could be present at depth beneath the younger upper Gawler Range Volcanics. Another 7 outcrop or float rock chip samples were collected and submitted for laboratory assaying, but no significant results were returned.
