Surface mapping and underground sampling carried out by SML 170 licensee Carpentaria Exploration at the Copper Queen mine (located on private Mineral Claim 4960) during 1969, had indicated the possibility of existence of a small size remnant orebody of oxidised copper ore, perhaps averaging 1-2% Cu, that has formed in a deeply leached geological environment. To test this supergene origin theory the company has drilled 24 inclined rotary percussion holes totalling 2018 feet into the highly brecciated siliceous dolomite rocks in the mine area, aimed at the likely better mineralised ground lying just beneath and to the east of the old workings.
