Literature research has been undertaken by Amdel into the possibility of economically conducting small scale hydrometallurgical processing of local copper sulphide ores. Most of the conventional techniques used elsewhere in the world have only been applied at large scale, and require complex and expensive equipment. Attention was directed towards developing techniques which can operate at atmospheric pressure, and two such have been recommended for further study, as it is considered that these processes can be operated at low throughputs with small capital costs. Both processes (sulphation roasting/leaching and ferric sulphate dissolution/electrolytic regeneration) will require development work, as they are modifications of proposed and operating processes.
