A large area centred ~40 km north-east of Quorn has been explored for possible economic near-surface cobalt mineralisation, after historic records of geochemical sampling that returned elevated cobalt values were found during searches of SARIG open file data. During the first licence year, field geological inspections and 25 pXRF spectrometric scanning checks of outcrop were performed at several historic abandoned small scale mine workings, plus the collection and laboratory assaying of 11 mineralised rock chip grab samples. Assay results confirmed the tenor of cobalt values obtained previously, of up to 0.12% Co, and showed that they are associated with manganese oxide mineralisation developed as stratabound lenses in weathered metasiltstone bedrock, along with broadly spaced but thin quartz-siderite veins containing elevated copper and barium. The veining appeared to be related to fold and fault brecciation that is associated with the Uroonda Syncline and the Orroroo Lineament. During licence Year 2, no work was done. Because it appeared that little scope existed for the discovery of significant mineralisation, it was decided to fully surrender tenure.
