The 1 mile wide by 1.5 miles long intra-montane Triassic Boolcunda Basin was investigated for its sedimentary uranium potential, by conducting reconnaissance ground scintillometric traverses across the entire contained Triassic to Recent sedimentary succession, and also across the basin boundary into bordering Adelaidean metasediments. The highest radioactivity readings, of only 1.5 times background and in the range of 60-65 counts per second, were obtained from a ferruginised sandstone underlying gypsiferous sediments in the upper part of the Triassic sequence. Because no mapping evidence could be found for the existence of a basal Triassic conglomerate, and in the western part of the basin all basal units were absent, which suggested overlap of higher beds in the succession onto Adelaidean basement, it was concluded that any prospective sediments would be of very limited occurrence, and did not warrant further work.
