A known surface radiometric anomaly, located in the Driver River valley near Rudall on Eyre Peninsula, was investigated by ground-based and airborne geophysical methods and by sampling of alluvial and lacustrine sediments from areas near the source of the river outflow, at two sets of lakebed springs apparently related to a interpreted major buried fault structure. Some early reported but quite misleading assay results for uranium were subsequently recognised as erroneous, being due to pronounced radioactive disequilibrium effects caused by a preponderance of radium trapped within the materials that had been sampled. Actual uranium concentration values of generally much less than 50 ppm U are now believed to be present.
