Continuous refraction profiling of the Ediacara Mineral Field was undertaken to locate its major western bounding fault, to estimate the downthrow on this fault, and to determine if the exploration objective, a Cambrian dolomitic limestone, extends to the far side of the fault. Nine reverse refraction profiles were shot over the period May 29 to June 7, 1970. Half mile velocity spreads were shot on top of the outcropping Palaeozoic bedrock quartzite and limestone. Two continuous refractors were mapped within the bedrock that are thought to represent the dolomitic limestone and quartzite, separated by shale and sandstone interbeds. Plotted velocity depth profiles indicate a high angle reverse fault with a throw down to the west in the range of 300-400 feet. The limestone velocity plotted is variable, but sufficient evidence is present to infer its presence at the base of the fault zone on the Band C lines.
