Investigations of the likely diamond potential of a part of the central Eyre Peninsula were conducted under a farm-in joint venture agreement which was in place for about fifteen months. Work comprised the collection of six drill cuttings bulk samples from two separate prospect areas (KO1 and K03) for heavy mineral laboratory processing and mineralogical examination. These were to be the first of many samples intended to be observed for diamond indicators, that would come from gold exploration drillholes being completed within EL 2178. Three possibly kimberlitic chromites were recovered from microscopic visual inspection of heavy mineral concentrates obtained from two of the samples, but microprobing of these mineral grains to establish their chemical composition downgraded them to be only of low interest. It was decided not to analyse any further samples from the two tested areas.
