An area centred ~70 km south-east of Woomera is being explored for possible economic buried IOCG type mineralisation which may have formed within Mesoproterozoic to Palaeoproterozoic basement. A farm-in joint venture was established between grant licensee Red Metal and OZ Exploration on 20/12/2017, whereby OZ Minerals became manager of exploration. OZ Exploration withdrew from the JV in December 2019 and Red Metal became the manager of exploration. On 1/11/2019, the tenement area was reduced almost by half, with the eastern part of the ground plus peripheral strips in the north and south being relinquished. Exploration work which had been done on this ground comprised a review and analysis of regional geophysical and geological data, the conduct of a Native Title heritage survey of proposed drill locations, and the drilling during the period October 2018 to January 2019 of a single deep, rotary percussion precollared, -70 degrees northwestwards inclined HQ/NQ2 diamond cored hole to an in-hole total depth of 1142.8 m. Hole DD18PTH005 was designed to test an isolated elliptical gravity high anomaly RD1 that is comparable in its horizontal extent to the Carrapateena and Khamsin deposits. This anomaly lies near an inferred NE trending lineament that appears to truncate major gravity domains recognised within the basement. The hole entered pre-Pandurra Formation basement at 774.6 m hole depth, which was a depth much deeper than had been prognosed. From 1074.3 m through to end-of-hole, a white quartz-feldspar massive to weakly foliated psammite was encountered, which was tentatively interpreted as being part of the Wallaroo Group, although instead of this it could perhaps be a sedimentary equivalent of the Gawler Range Volcanics. Drilling was terminated while still within it, due to the likely excessive further depth of penetration that would be required to reach the anomaly source target zone. No significant mineralisation was encountered, and no values of interest were returned from assaying of drill core samples.
