An area extending inland between Baird Bay and Venus Bay, 50-80 km South-east of Streaky Bay, has been taken up to explore for significant buried occurrences kaolin associated with the deep Cenozoic weathering of Proterozoic granite, in order to assess the viability of conducting satellite kaolin mining and clay mineral processing there in conjunction with development of the Carey’s Well kaolin resource. During the first two licence years, Minotaur undertook the compilation and review of historical data and open-file geological and geophysical datasets, as well as doing desktop studies related to kaolin processing and transportation. The company's review of historical data indicated that kaolin which was intersected in historical drillholes may be suitable for ceramic applications. To identify thicker or higher grade zones of mineralisation within the local granitic bedrock weathering profile, a systematic evaluation of the previously recorded, up to 10 m thick kaolin intercepts was recommended.
