An area on the south-western edge of the Frome Embayment, that is centred ~100 km south of the Beverley uranium mine, has been taken up to explore for possible buried palaeochannel and sandstone hosted roll front style secondary uranium mineralisation which may have formed within the Tertiary age Namba and Eyre formations. Potential was also thought to exist for unconformity style base metal mineralisation and gold deposits that could be associated with faulting within Lower Cambrian limestone. No field work was done during Year 1. Activity was limited to a making literature review and compilation of historical exploration data. The occurrence of reduced and oxidised sediments was noted and considered encouraging, with planned exploration aiming to determine the position of target redox fronts. No work was done during licence Year 2. During licence Year 3, in December 2015, one exploratory vertical rotary mud hole, MF001, was drilled within EL 5311 to TD 192 m, to test the Tertiary strata in an area where the top of basement was interpreted from historic airborne electromagnetic survey data to lie at a relatively shallow depth. Drilling intersected interpreted Willawortina Formation equivalents from the surface to 42 m depth, then a Namba Formation sedimentary succession from 42 to 113 m, weathered basement clays from 113 to 167 m, and lastly, very weakly weathered Adelaidean basement composed of finally laminated siltstones from 167 to 192 m. The Namba Formation lithologies intersected are dominated by oxidised clays and silts, with rare discrete interbedded very thin sand horizons. No anomalous gamma ray wireline log readings were recorded from this section of the hole, the highest peak value being 320 counts per second at 59.1 m depth, in the top of a 3.5 m thick clay bed showing on average radioactivity levels to about twice background. No further work was undertaken on the subject licence over the succeeding five years, before a decision was made on 12/5/2021 to fully surrender its tenure.
