An area located in the northern SA Murray Mallee region, covering an extent of ground surrounding Loxton, has been explored for possible buried accumulations of Tertiary heavy mineral sands which may have formed in the sedimentary cover. In total, 816 square km or ~50.7% of the area previously covered by EL 5358 has been relinquished in three separate sub-blocks due to it now being perceived as unlikely to contain economic HM mineralisation. The rationale for this action was based on current licensee Murray Zircon's review of drillhole data previously obtained within the now relinquished portions of the tenement, plus results the company itself had gained from its more recent drilling, assaying and geological interpretation done in adjacent areas. The earlier drilling on the relinquished ground had been conducted by former licence owner Australian Zircon during the period 1997 to 2011, when 45 vertical open RC aircore holes with a total penetration of 1595 m were drilled within the largest, eastern relinquished sub-block, primarily along road verges. The data obtained from these holes are appended to the subject report. No significant heavy mineral occurrences were encountered.
