An area centred ~50 km west-northwest of Tarcoola is being explored for possible economic palaeochannel - hosted secondary uranium deposits, as well as for possible hydrothermal gold mineralisation which may have been emplaced within siliciclastic sediments of the Tarcoola Basin, and also possible IOCG mineralisation that may have formed in older Archaean to Proterozoic crystalline basement rocks. At the end of the first licence year, 176 square km or ~50% of the originally granted area was relinquished, in the form of six separate peripheral ground portions, due to their then perceived lower prospectivity for shallowly buried uranium mineralisation, and to act as a cost cutting measure in response to the minerals industry downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. No field work was done on the relinquished licence portions, which are located between the Malbooma and Lyons sidings of the Trans Australia Railway. Office-based studies comprised making a review of the regional geology and of past records of uranium occurrences found in the area, within a 15 km long sinuous section of the Tertiary Warrior Palaeochannel. It was noted that uranium mineralisation had previously been delineated there in eight discrete zones, over a total area of ~25 square km. It is developed at a depth of ~30 m and occupies a ~1.5 m thick porous unit located at a reduction/oxidation interface within Eocene lignitic sediments.
