Ten samples of silica-rich clays from the white clay deposit in the Hundred of Davenport, located 14 miles east of Port Augusta, were analysed for their content of alkaline metals, and then underwent fire tests to determine their ceramic value. Resulting poor fired colours downgraded the clays' suitability for refractory purposes.
