12 square km of ground have recently been relinquished from the northern end of a small licence area centred ~20 km south-east of Woomera. This licence has been taken up because the region is widely regarded by explorers as being prospective for epithermal IOCG mineralisation beneath cover sequences, as well as for unconformity-related Cu-Co deposits within the cover sequences. The recent discovery by BHP at Oak Dam West of high-grade IOCG mineralisation, but at depths below surface of more than 800 m, has given the licensee cause to contemplate the economic implications of finding a similar IOCG occurrence on its tenement. A decision was made to relinquish the northern end of the original licence area after available factual and interpretive information about the bedrock features there had been obtained and assessed. The geological reviews indicated low potential for finding and delineating economic copper, gold and cobalt mineralisation at this location, which may lie within a graben. No drillholes exist there to prove or disprove this inference.
