A large area of the southern Gawler Ranges comprising two separate sub-blocks has been taken up to allow Menninnie Metals to conduct further regional exploration to try to delineate structurally controlled hydrothermal Ag-Zn-Pb and epithermal Au-Ag-(Cu) systems and possible buried orebodies within Mesoproterozoic igneous basement rocks. EL 5518 is considered prospective for the following types of Hiltaba age (and possibly younger) mineralisation: (1) all five styles of Zn-Pb-Ag deposits known to exist at Menninnie Dam; (2) epithermal Ag-Au vein and breccia systems of conventional low sulphidation type and of IOCG affinity; (3) Hiltaba-age hydrothermal and skarn style IOCG deposits and tin-tungsten greisen deposits, and Kimban age Pb-Zn skarns (eg No 17 Bore style); and, more speculatively, (4) mafic/ultramafic diatreme-related Cu-Au mineralisation with localised zones of high grade Au comparable to diatremes occurring locally within the Olympic Dam Breccia Complex, but not necessarily associated with major development of comparable IOCG hydrothermal breccias. During the first licence year, field work was undertaken which focussed mainly on geological reconnaissance traversing of existing tracks, plus minor traversing along fence lines. Approximately 346 km of tracks were traversed, searching for vein, vein-breccia and altered wall rock lags and float. Another 245 km of traversing along fence lines remains to be done. Exposed bedrock evidence for the former presence of hydrothermal / epithermal systems in the Gawler Range Volcanics (GRV) was observed at five sites, and in Hiltaba Suite granite at one site. Negotiations with the Gawler Ranges Aboriginal Corp. were progressed towards establishing a Part 9B agreement to authorise conducting on-ground exploration work away from the existing tracks and fencelines on the tenement. As soon as a Part 9b agreement is finalised, the intent is to perform surface geochemical sampling and acquire ground geophysical surveys across a broad region. Office-based activities included the compilation of historical exploration data into a DataShed database and into a MapInfo-Discover GIS database. A conceptual review of the prospectivity of EL 5518 and other Menninnie Metals’ tenements nearby was begun. Farm-in discussions with four potential joint venture partners, including guidance with making due diligence reviews of available data, are underway.
