Copper Search Australia Pty Ltd (a subsidiary of Copper Search Limited) was granted co-funding from the Department of Energy and Mining in July 2021 to a subsidy total of up to $228,000, to assist it with high risk exploration of remote parts of the Adelaide Fold Belt for copper deposits. The company's three Ruby Hill Project licences occupy a part of the belt where only a sparse number of drillholes have fully transected the Adelaidean metasedimentary sequence and entered Palaeoproterozoic basement. None of these drillholes lie within the subject EL 6195. Copper Search’s strategy in targeting its exploration has been to make best use of the free Gawler Craton Airborne Survey data which were generated by the SA Government and Geoscience Australia under the PACE Copper Initiative, having had them reprocessed in 2019 by Archimedes Consulting to generate a number of discrete targets across the Copper Search tenement package. These targets all resemble vertical pipe-like buried features, some associated with anticlinal folding of the Adelaidean metasedimentary cover, which were variously interpreted to represent volcanic breccia filled vents, salt dome or diapiric breccia structures, or Telfer style stacked hydrothermal vein stockworks. One target located close to Douglas Creek, on the western side of Lake Eyre North and south of the Peake and Denison Ranges, was chosen to be drilled, and once all approvals were in place (NTMA, Heritage Survey, landholder consent, EPEPR approval), diamond drilling commenced in November 2021. Drilling finished in mid-December 2021 with the near vertical hole being stopped at a total depth of 728 m. It had encountered Adelaidean basalts, dolomite and dolomitic siltstones, followed by Proterozoic variably altered metasediments. Preliminary analysis made of the HQ/NQ2 drill core's geochemistry using a handheld XRF spectrometric instrument was followed by the submission of 151 selected core samples for quantitative laboratory assaying for a comprehensive suite of elements including rare earths. Although there were indications of strong sericite alteration and minor haematite alteration visible in the drill core, no significant sulphides or anomalous trace elements were detected therein. Rehabilitation of the drillsite has been completed to the satisfaction of the landholder.
