As a part of continuing exploration for possible economic buried sedimentary redox style uranium deposits that may have formed in palaeochannel sediments and floodplain sandstone units of the Tertiary Clayton Basin, an 8 km long airborne radiometric anomaly following the western edge of Lake Arthur was studied, to map if any gas might be emanating from it. A consultant, Neil Pendock, used Sentinel 2 satellite remote sensing imagery to determine that helium was being released from the ground in that location, by looking at radiation spectra with wavelengths that are unique to the expected daughter products of radioactive decay, where these may have originated from previously mobile radionuclides that were liberated by erosion or the near surface weathering of uraniferous rock and sediment. Following receipt of the results of this work, the licensee decided to relinquish three sub-blocks of EL 5892 which appeared to be unprospective based on its interpretation of available regional geophysical data and apparent lack of any spatial coincidence of radioactivity survey anomalism with the reported presence of helium. A total of 32 square km or ~35 % of the formerly held area has now been relinquished.
