Outcropping Lower Cambrian carbonate rocks, plus Adelaidean diapiric rocks located west of the historical Mount Bayley copper mine, were tested for concealed base metal mineralisation by collecting and analysing 133 regional stream sediment samples. The results were not at all anomalous, and had disappointingly very low base metal values considering the sampled area's proximity to the Beltana zinc deposits. Concurrent geological examinations too showed normal, un-mineralised dolomitic members of the Ajax Limestone, and a diapir and associated breccias that appeared devoid of signs of base metal mineralisation.
