In part of a regional coal exploration programme, 3 open rotary mud holes for a total of 380.3 m were drilled into the target Mount Toondina Formation, the third hole being geophysically logged through the Mesozoic and Permian sequences. All three drillholes encountered only the non - coal bearing lower portion of the unit, with the missing upper part assumed to be caused by erosion or non-deposition. It was concluded that the potential for finding any shallow, persistent seams in the EL area would be low.
