The area of interest for base metal exploration lies within a complex of Archaean metamorphic rocks intruded by undifferentiated granitic rocks of Archaean-Proterozoic age. The main exploration target is copper, but moderately rich silver, cobalt and nickel have been noted in some samples from the area, and a minor occurrence of scheelite has been recorded. Detailed geological mapping around the historic Dome Rock mine was followed by grid-based mapping of the entire SML at 1:4800 scale. A geochemical auger drilling programme then commenced, followed by an IP survey. Ground magnetics were carried out over the whole SML to assist the geological mapping. Check assays were performed on anomalous soil samples, which confirmed some high Mo, W and Bi values. A number of promising Cu geochemical anomalies were identified, the largest having a peak value of 9800 ppm. All of these anomalies exhibit quite close associations with certain of the mapped stratigraphic units.
