Reconnaissance shallow stratigraphic drilling with subsequent borehole geophysical electric and radioactivity logging in the south-western Frome Embayment (21 rotary mud partly cored holes, total 8841 feet), over areas lying adjacent to outcropping known uraniferous Precambrian basement, was aimed (a) at establishing the presence of a porous sedimentary section prospective for roll front - type uranium orebodies, (b) at finding any lignite horizons occurring within the section, and (c) at locating if possible the oxidation front or fronts within such horizons, where the chemically precipitated uranium ore might be expected to have been concentrated. Two areas of interest were revealed by this work: in one area a sand-filled palaeochannel was intersected by drillholes EAR10, EAR11, EAR13, EAR15 and EAR20, while in another a thin interval of radioactive clayey core containing approximately 1.48% U was recovered from drillhole EAR19.
