Possible Cambrian carbonate-hosted Mississippi Valley style Pb-Zn deposits were the targets of exploration in the Chace and Druid Ranges, located north of Hawker, and also nearby at Mount Aleck. Following geological reconnaissance mapping at 1:20,000 scale, intensive stream sediment sampling and soil sampling coverages of Lower Cambrian units exposed or shallowly covered on major synclinal limbs were undertaken, including sampling of the trench excavated to house the Moomba - Stony Point gas / condensate pipeline. Follow-up 50 m grid-spaced rock chip and soil sampling downgraded the potential of visible stratabound barite/copper mineralisation located at the Vanessa prospect (maximum 710 ppm Cu, 60 ppm Pb and 650 ppm Zn), but anomalous stream sediment results from the southern limb of the Chace and Druid Syncline (e.g. Zn to 540 ppm, Co to 70 ppm) were not fully investigated before a decision was made to surrender the tenement.
