Stratabound gold in rocks of the Adelaidean metasedimentary sequence was the target of exploration undertaken on Manunda Station, about 45 km south-east of Yunta. No significant gold values were detected in a programme of stream sediment bulk sampling (194 samples assayed) and limited rock chip sampling (11 samples). The BLEG (Bulk Leach Extractable Gold) sample processing technique, that is designed to upgrade low levels of gold content to detectable limits using a cyanidation process acting on a large unpulverised sediment sample, and a complementary analysis by AAS of ~100g samples of panned heavy mineral concentrates, were the previously untried [in this area] methods that were used to test for any gold. No elevated gold values were returned from Newmont's chosen stream sediment sampling density of one sample per 2 square km, the highest value obtained being 1.52 ppb Au. 1:25,000 scale geological mapping and targeted rock chip sampling of silica-rich facies of the Braemar Iron Formation in the South Black Hills did not return any gold values >0.1 ppm Au. The separated magnetic mineral and non-magnetic mineral fractions of the 30 panned concentrate samples were also assayed via 5g subsamples, using AAS/XRF methods, for a suite of trace metals, and two anomalous silver values of 807 ppb Ag and 489 ppb Ag were detected, for which no cause was apparent. Copper values were uniformly weak. An optical microscopic examination of polished sections of the magnetic fraction of eight of the heavy mineral concentrate samples did not disclose any fine gold content.
