After conducting low level aeromagnetic and radiometric surveys plus ground magnetic and gravity surveys during 1980 and 1981, in a search for possible syngenetic or stratiform base and precious metal deposits, Amoco drilled 6 rotary percussion holes (total 598 m) to test 5 coincident magnetic/gravity anomalies possibly originating in Middle Proterozoic volcanics and sediments, but intersected no significant mineralisation. Clays above weathered basic volcanics in drillhole KRP6 showed minor anomalous bismuth and trace elevated tin of uncertain affinity. Geochemical traverses made over a possible biotite adamellite at Company Well found no tin or tungsten mineralisation. In a separate farm-in programme for diamonds managed by BHP Minerals during 1982-83, aeromagnetic data reprocessing and interpretation and ground magnetic surveys located 20 magnetic anomalies which were drilled to bedrock (38 RAB holes, total 971 m). All these drillholes failed to intersect kimberlites, as confirmed by BHP's mineralogical and geochemical analyses of drill cuttings and Amoco's petrology studies of bottom-hole samples, yet this work left the causes of many of the anomalies unexplained.
