A significant portion of the Arckaringa Basin acreage held by Meekatharra Minerals, that was subjected to greenfields coal exploration between 1980 and 1986, has now been relinquished. Relevant exploration work, for which the basic data is being released to open file, has comprised the open-hole rotary mud drilling and geophysical logging of 14 stratigraphic wells, for a total penetration of 2777 m. Although the target coal-bearing Permian Mount Toondina Formation was present in some of these drillholes, the thin coal seams that were encountered therein are considered by the licensees to have little economic potential.
